Middle School Honor Choir
The LCRMEA welcomes guest director Mike Scott to conduct the middle school honor choir.
An avid performer and adjudicator, Mike Scott has been singing and performing for over 30 years. He attended Lane Community College in Eugene, OR and soon gained national attention as a performer and soloist in the vocal jazz ensemble, Spectrum, earning numerous ensemble and soloist awards, including Downbeat Collegiate Vocalist of the Year and Outstanding Collegiate Vocal Soloist at the Reno Jazz Festival. Now, Mike is quickly gaining a reputation as a leading music educator in the Pacific Northwest. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education from Central Washington University, where he sang in the prestigious CWU Chamber Choir under Dr. Gary Weidenaar and nationally acclaimed CWU Vocal Jazz 1 under Vijay Singh. Mike has performed with many great jazz icons including Bobby McFerrin, Nancy King, John Pizzarelli, Sara Gazarek and Josh Nelson, and more. A musician on the side as well, he performs in a professional vocal jazz group named Last Call directed by Kelly Kunz (from Groove For Thought). As an educator, Mike has taught middle, high, and college choir and has directed several honor choirs including the British Columbia Music Educators Association Honour Vocal Jazz Ensemble in 2015. Mike is currently the director of choirs at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, Washington, where both his Concert and Jazz choirs have earned several top honors throughout the Northwest and Canada. He is in demand as an adjudicator for both middle and high school choir festivals and solo & ensemble. He resides in Bellevue with his wife Angela (choir director at Chinook Middle School), his daughter Penelope, and his two furchildren, Finnegan and Agnes.
